10-Word Reviews

Simone and I watch far more films than we ever seem to have time to write proper reviews for. So, we hit upon the idea of writing 10-word reviews. There's no detail, no deep response or room for waffle, just gut reaction and summary.

The Transporter - In the cool rankings, sub-zero! Fast, slick, action-packed, great film.

The Wedding Singer - Tacky, predictable, a true chick-flick. But fun and easy watching.

xXx - Trying too hard to be cool. Explosions, guns, cars, muscles, ... ...

Love Actually - Typical soppy chick-flick, good, but not worth all the hype.

A Shark's Tale - Fun family film, good story with gags for young & old.

Spiderman II - Finishing Spiderman1, setting-up Spiderman3, lacking storyline - Spiderman 'finds himself'. Poor.

The Last Castle - Potentially inspiring, self-help/respect themed bloke-film. Worth watching.

Collateral Damage - Arnie the action man, again! Not as bad as feared.

Magnolia - Abstract, sometimes disjointed, but fairly deep and we liked it.

High Fidelity - Bland and we tend not to like John Cusack.

Insomnia - Nicely constructed, detailed but clear storyline. Well acted (particularly Pacino).

Heat - Strong characters set in a steadily developed plot. Superb film.

Beyond Borders - Slightly contrived love story set in context of humanitarian comment.

The Forgotten - Far-fetched. Like an extended X-Files episode. Strangely enjoyable nonetheless.

The Replacement - Typically hype-full American sports team movie. Cheesy, tacky, poor.

When The Sky Falls - No glitz, edgey, well-written drama, complimented with good acting.

Hearts in Atlantis - Uneventful, weak, didn't hold our attention - all this despite Hopkins.

Absolute Power - Potentially okay storyline but poor script, acting and production.

Murder at 1600 - Wesley Snipes saves the US President. Very tacky. Done before.

The Pilot's Wife - Tries hard at emotion, but plot too obvious and weak ending.

Two If By Sea - Leary can't write, but with Bullock, just about saves this.

Ordinary Decent Criminal - Crooks as heroes, tight storyline, well put together. Good film.

The Kid - Imaginative storyline, cute, emotional, perfect casting an acting, slightly predictable

De Kleine Blonde Dood - Desperately sad, stark look at life, good acting, powerful story.

Uptown Girls - Ten words would be too generous!

After The Sunset - Nicely constructed and well poised film that we enjoyed watching.

Mr & Mrs Smith - Somewhat predictable but enjoyably well put together film.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl - Bad graphics, bad acting, bad story and Keira Knightley!

The Weatherman - An extended character study; woeful, but lightened by hope-full change.

Mission Impossible 3 - Crash! Bang! Gadgets! Double-Bluff! Entertaining, but nothing new.

Lord of the Rings - Incredible scenery, brilliantly filmed but too long to watch together!
