I Want More

from the album 'No Roots' by Faithless

Mesmerising – musically, rhythmically, visually and lyrically.

A ‘house’ beat is nothing special anymore. House is mainstream, it’s become ‘pop’. But Faithless don’t do tacky mainstream pop. Faithless compose fresh, creative sounds and rhythms and throw in lyrics not simply to garnish but to intensify and develop flavour and depth.

Set against a house beat, synthesized chords and sounds and a catchy riff, the sample of “I want more” from the Nina Simone classic provides the title for this track, whilst Maxi Jazz takes subtly picks up and expands the title as a thought of what might be.

Apparently this set up is in keeping with the rest of the ‘No Roots’ album that ‘I want more’ comes from. Using the tracks on this album to “make a stand and be counted”, Maxi Jazz limits himself to five lines here:

More oneness, less categories,
Open hearts, no strategies.
Decisions based upon faith and not fear.
People live right now and right here.
I want the wisdom that wise men revere.

Go to the Faithless website and enjoy the full video version of this track for yourself by finding it in the News section. This track is not to be missed and is more than enough for me to be going out and buying the album very soon.
