Nevertheless

by John Kirkby

As those of you who know me will probably be aware, I’m someone who is prepared to take risks, to run with a vision/idea and to put my faith as a Christian on the line, to trust God in ways that may well be thought a bit extreme, even slightly crazy. I’m not the only one!

In 1997 John Kirkby, with a vision he was convinced was from God, a compassion and care for the debt-oppressed needy and a faith that God could and would use him, set up a charity called Christians Against Poverty (CAP) in Bradford.

Debt is crippling many people’s lives across the UK today. According to recent figures, the average household owes £6000 without taking mortgages into account. We are a credit-crazy society and many are suffering the consequences. CAP is dedicated to bringing about a practical expression of the heart of God for those whose lives are spiralling into more and more trouble as they struggle with debt. Jesus spoke more about money than He did about heaven, but Christians seem to feel a bit too uncomfortable with that point, so let’s move on quickly …!
No.

Debt is a problem. At the time this book was published (May 2003), since it started CAP had helped over 6000 people who had been struggling with debt, many of whom are now debt free. Furthermore, around 250 people have met the God who cares for them so much that He prompts people like John Kirkby to take huge steps of faith to set up projects and charities like CAP.

Read this book to be thrilled by the miraculous work of God in and through CAP. Don’t you dare read it without realising and appreciating how very important their work is!
