SpeedFerries
(Dover - Boulogne)
With
only one boat going to and fro between Dover and Boulogne, SpeedFerries
are a cheap and quick way to travel the Channel. Comfy seats, baby and
other family facilities and refreshments give you all you need for the
crossing and if the weather’s nice you can even stand out on deck
to see those famous white cliffs.
We had a major problem with them when, on one occasion, the service was
cancelled as the boat had been withdrawn for servicing. We had booked
well in advance but only found out when we arrived at the port in Dover
– bad administration! However, in fairness, they helped us find
an alternative service with another company that same day, and then refunded
our ticket and gave us a free return ticket for a date of our choice.
Other than that, the staff are always very friendly and helpful. It’s
lovely to see a friendly English face after having spent a day in France
or 50 minutes on a very choppy sea! I’d definitely recommend SpeedFerries
if you’re a bit short on cash (return tickets start at £50)
and perhaps even if you have plenty.
